Kaeser Sigma Snow System
Selected for Olympic Games
Even the southwestern Alps are not always assured of reliable snowfall, which explains why Olympic organizers turned to Kaeser Compressors to install nine Sigma Snow System air compressors to ensure good skiing conditions for the competitors in the 2006 Winter Olympics in Torino, Italy.
Hope Air Systems Distributes Kaeser
For Hope Air Systems, which is the authorized Kaeser distributor for the six-state New England region, it’s gratifying to see the Kaeser brand on the worldwide stage of the Winter Olympics, according to Peter Rhoten, President. “We work closely with the Kaeser engineers and technicians, when specifying air compressors and associated systems for our customers, and have come to appreciate the skill and dedication to quality of the Kaeser team,” said Rhoten. “It’s not a surprise to me that Kaeser was selected for this prestigious assignment to provide snow making for such a critical event as the 2006 Winter Olympics,” he added.
Specialized Kaeser Compressor Packages
The systems installed for the Olympics are highly specialized compressor packages. Kaeser has worked in close cooperation with “snow cannon” manufacturers and system planners to develop a complete compressed air package specifically designed for the growing snowmaking industry. According to Peter Rhoten, each Kaeser Sigma Snow System turnkey package comprises a rotary screw compressor, compressed air treatment and temperature control.
While the snow making concept is simple: using compressed air to spray water out through high-pressure nozzles at temperatures below freezing; it gets complicated when the strict environmental protection regulations are factored in when building these systems. The result of these strict regulations is that air of the highest quality is required. Kaeser has worked with leading snow making companies around the world to meet these requirements.
