Rotary screw compressors operate on the principle of positive displacement. Filtered air enters the inlet of the airend where two rotors un-mesh. The air is trapped between the rotors and the airend housing. As the rotors re-mesh, the space is reduced on the opposite side of the airend and thus, the air is compressed and moved to the discharge port. Common designs are one-stage, two-stage and oil-free rotary air compressors. One-Stage Rotary Compressors
A single stage helical or spiral lobe oil flooded screw air compressor consists of two rotors inside a casing there the rotors compress the air internally. Due to its unique design, the rotary compressor’s main parts do not experience extreme operating temperatures. This means it is ideal for continuous duty. And with few moving parts, it is easy to maintain.
Two-Stage Rotary Compressors
The two stage version of the rotary compressor uses pairs of rotors in a combined airend assembly. Flowing in a series, the compression is shared between the first and second stages. The design contributes to increased efficiency. As with the single stage design, the two stage design is available as an air cooled or water cooled system.
Oil-Free Rotary Compressors
Using a specially designed airend, the oil-free rotary compressor operates without oil in the compression chamber. As with one-stage and two-stage oil-flooded systems, oil-free compressors are available air cooled or water cooled.
